Environmental Catastrophe

The storm at Black sea on Sunday hit Russian tanker Volgoneft -139, that led to a oil spill of 1,3000 tonnes of oil. Reports say this is one of the major environmental disasters that has hit Russia. The storm has killed 3 seamen and 5 other sea men have been reported missing. Russia is expecting more storms until Tuesday and this has hampered the search. The same storm hit 4 other freighters that carried sulphur and a cargo of scrap metal. On the whole nearly 10 ships were hit by the storm.

Officials say that shipping was warned much before, in spite of this the captains chose to ignore the warning and this has led to the disaster. This has affected the life in the oceans because the temperature of the oil makes it sink into the ocean beds rather than floating.

A flock of 1000 rails were huddled on the beach not able to fly because of the oil that coated their feathers.Spilt fuel oil coated birds in a thick black sludge along a vast expanse of coastline in the northern mouth of the Black Sea, near Russia's border with Ukraine. Russian officials say that this was the worst environmental disasters that happened and would take years to clean it up.

Meera signing off.. Stay tuned
